2008 BMW 750 Li Road Test (1343 views)

Episode Details

2008 BMW 750 Li Road Test

This week we tested the last production year of the E65 7 series. This particular test car was the extended wheelbase version, the "Li", which adds an extra 5 inches to the cars overall length. The 750 Li is easily the largest car in BMW's lineup, offering a tremendous amount of refinement and luxury. It also didn't disappoint on the performance end, putting up numbers that would make some sports car owners jealous.

As you will see in the road test video, the car offers a spectacular balance of performance and luxury, all of which is packaged wonderfully in beautiful sheet metal. BMW also took some much needed advice from customers about its controversial styling from 02-05'. The facelift that the model received really helped make its appearance much more appealing. The BMW 750 Li sport sedan truly lives up to the BMW slogan of "Ultimate Driving Machine". Check out the video for more...

This is a road test video of the 2008 BMW 750 Li Sedan. This is the flagship sedan in BMW's lineup and our test car happened to be the extended wheelbase version. The 2008 model was the last production year of the E65 7 series.

The "Li" designation means that this car is the long wheelbase version of the 7 series model. It adds a full 5 inches the the overall length of the car, most of which is focused on the rear passengers leg room.

The 750 Li is powered by a 4.8 liter 32 valve V8 with an output of 360 horsepower and 360 ft-lbs of torque. The engine feels very punchy and unstressed when propelling the sedan during hard acceleration. Our tests exceeded the manufacturers claim of around 6 seconds. We achieved a 5.7 second run.

The cars ride is somewhat stiff for a luxury sedan, due in part to the fact that our test car had the sport suspension. However, as we began to push the car it was apparent that the sport suspension was a very purposeful feature. It really handled well for such a large car.

Build quality was first rate in the 750 Li, which is typical for BMW. The cabin was also well designed with plenty of room and amenities. The only complaint was the iDrive system, which doesnt even need an explanation.

Overall, the 750 Li sedan easily lived up to its expectation. Its balance of luxury and performance is unmatched by any other car on the market right now. This car is clearly the drivers luxury car.
